January always seems so full of hope for the new year. It can also seem like one long Monday. Just being real here. Thinking about all our great businesses in Atascadero: It seems like January is the perfect time to try them out and meet up with friends that you didn’t see over the holidays to make January feel more like a Friday.

One of the most fun ways to get your friends together is by doing some axe throwing at A-Town Chop Shop. They have a funky, rustic, vintage-auto-themed neon vibe that is fun to hang out in. There are various axe-throwing adventures, including interactive targets that will challenge your skills (and sense of humor). A-Town Chop Shop is located in the La Plaza Building with a Pit Stop Patio where you can watch others throw some axes or watch the downtown move.

If you’d like a more creative experience, The Pottery on Entrada is just the place. They have multiple-week courses, date nights, teens and kids classes, family time, and open studio time. The Pottery makes learning a new skill or refining your skills easy and fun.

To get some one-on-one time with a friend, try Green Omen Apothecary on Palma Avenue, right around the corner from Morjesi’s salon. The Green Omen Apothecary has a selection of tea blends the owner, Riana Martinez, has put together, or you can create your own tea blend with her wall full of ingredients. She has a menu of drinks you can order to sit in her cozy lounge and enjoy. I loved the Lavender Chai drink and will be going back for more. The Green Omen Apothecary also has a selection of personal care items made with natural ingredients.

Bramble Pie Company on Entrada is another great place to meet up with friends. You can get a hot beverage and enjoy the handmade pies and pastries they make there. I know we just had a season of eating pies, but at Bramble Pie Company, the pie is center stage and not just an after-dinner activity. Speaking of dinner, you can also take home one of their pot pies for an easy dinner.

Who doesn’t love to explore a new business with your friends? Julez Bryant Fine Jewelry opened in the La Plaza Building in November with a beautiful and distinctive look. Julez Bryant was built on the foundation that women should feel empowered in the jewelry they wear, and she has created a collection that has won many awards doing that.

There are so many fun things to do and see in Atascadero this January. I hope you ease into 2024 with excitement for the coming year.
