The streets were packed with bargain hunters

ATASCADERO — People were out on the streets hunting for pre-owned treasures on Saturday, April 20, for the 7th Annual Atascadero Citywide Yard Sale. The bargains were flowing from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with over 120 Atascadero residents and neighborhoods participating. The weather also cooperated, and with the sun out, cars were parked all over the windy streets, and most yard sales had a steady stream of shoppers coming and going for the whole six hours.

“It’s been good. We’ve had a lot of good traffic. Lots of people are stopping by. Able to get rid of some things. Good weather. It’s been nice,” said resident Brea Pritchett.

The Citywide Yard Sale doesn’t just bring in local residents. In fact, bargain hunters have started driving in from out of the area to see what Atascadero has to offer, both in yard sales and the rest of the community.

“It seems like we’ve had quite a few people and a lot of the people we’ve talked to have been to multiple yard sales before this. There’s definitely a lot going on,” added Pritchett.

The Atascadero Printery Foundation was just one of the nonprofit or church yard sales that were a part of the day’s pickings.

“It’s been really great. We’ve had people since about eight o’clock and it’s been really steady,” said Mary Rush, who’s on the Atascadero Printery Foundation Board.

She added that their rummage sale had brought in lots of combination sales that ranged closer to $30 per bundle. All the money raised at their sale went to the local Questers Chapter, Agua Caliente, and the California State Questers to continue raising money for the Printery building’s window restoration.

Other yard sale hosts offered their shoppers things like free popcorn, coffee, and other refreshments while everyone was out hunting for their favorite new-to-them old items.

“It’s fun seeing people appreciate the things that you don’t need anymore,” Pritchett said. “Knowing that it’s going to go to a good home and knowing that people are actually going to appreciate it. It’s always fun. We like doing yard sales.”

The Atascadero Citywide Yard Sale was held in conjunction with the City of Atascadero. All monies raised from registration fees will go toward maintenence and improvements to the inclusive Joy Playground at Colony Park.

The Atascadero Citywide Yard Sale was sponsored by your very own, Atascadero News, who also printed yard sale maps in last week’s paper.
