Fatal hit-and-run: Police searching for driver and vehicle

A fatal hit-and-run in Atascadero on Friday afternoon led to the closure of a portion of El Camino Real as police launched an investigation. Authorities responded to a call shortly before 3 p.m., reporting that a boy had been struck by a vehicle. According to reports, a witness described the suspect vehicle as a gray Dodge Ram.

Law enforcement officers immediately began searching for the driver and vehicle, deploying drones to aid in the search effort. The affected road closure extended between El Bordo Avenue and The Knollā€™s at Avenida Maria. Reports say that as of 5 p.m., Chief Daniel Suttles was unable to provide an update on the status of the search.

Officials have asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
