The Greybots won the 2019 FIRST® Championship to earn Team 973’s third win on the world stage
In 2019, the Atascadero Robotics Team 973 gained their own practice area. Having already taken down the overall win at the FIRST® Championship in 2011 and 2017, the team was hungry to add to that record.
Each year a new robot is built, and this year the game was to grab large basketball-sized orbs and place them or throw them into goals. The 2019 robot was named “Fireball” and the Red Alliance proved too-hot-to-handle at the Orange County Regionals as the Greybots lifted their team to a decisive finish, defeating the Blue team 90-37.

It was a battle in Space City for a celebration of the space-themed robotics season at the 2019 FIRST® Championship presented by Qualcomm® Incorporated. The world’s largest celebration of STEM for students, FIRST Championship brings together tens of thousands of students from around the world who participate in our K-12 robotics programs – along with the educators, industry professionals, sponsors, organizations, and colleges/universities who support them.

The world stage was much closer in the final seconds, as the Blue alliance held off the Red for a 114-103 win.
