David Lee Brooks (1933-2026)

David Lee Brooks, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in June 2026. He lived a long, full life devoted to God, his family, his community, and his country.

Born in 1933 to William and Della Brooks, Dave spent his childhood in Alameda, California, with his parents and brother Glen. After graduating high school at 16, Dave earned his associate degree before joining the Navy as an aviation cadet, earning his wings in 1953.

As a naval aviator, Dave completed a tour of duty with Fighter Squadron VF-54 on the USS Kearsarge; worked as a flight instructor; and then transitioned to the U.S. Navy Reserve, retiring with the rank of Commander in 1978.

Dave also worked for various municipal utilities, including serving as Chief Clerk & Secretary of the Board for the La Crescenta Water District.

Shortly before entering the Navy, Dave met the love of his life, Evelyn. The couple married in 1955 and were blessed with three sons, Stephen, Philip, and John. Dave loved spending time with his boys, playing sports together, road tripping, and camping.

After retirement, Dave and Evelyn moved to Templeton in San Luis Obispo County, where Dave had a full next chapter, spending time with his grandchildren, traveling with Evelyn, serving as an elder at Atascadero Gospel Chapel, holding various local government positions, and volunteering as a docent at the Estrella Warbirds Museum.

Dave will be remembered for his deep love and dedication to Evelyn and his family, his commitment to integrity and excellence, his kindness and friendliness, his humor, and his desire to share God’s amazing love. He is greatly missed by his wife, his three sons, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 1:30 pm on August 22 at Atascadero Gospel Chapel.
