Meals that Connect celebrates 35 years of service

SAN LUIS OBISPO — Meals that Connect celebrated its 35th anniversary as an incorporated nonprofit organization during a community partner celebration held July 15 at La Lomita Ranch.

The event brought together staff, board members, elected officials, volunteers, donors and community members to recognize the organization's milestone and its decades of service to older adults on the Central Coast. While Meals that Connect was incorporated as a nonprofit in 1991, its community work began in 1974.

Guests enjoyed refreshments, live music by Black Market Trio and other activities while reflecting on the nonprofit's history and future.

Among those attending were San Luis Obispo County Supervisors Jimmy Paulding, Heather Moreno, and Dawn Ortiz-Legg; Assemblymember Dawn Addis; and representatives for Senate President Pro Tempore Monique Limón and State Sen. John Laird.

“Programs like Meals That Connect reminds us that caring for our seniors is both a responsibility and a reflection of our values," Addis said. "Their work helps older adults remain independent in their own homes while giving families the peace of mind that someone is checking in and looking out for their loved ones. It’s an invaluable service that strengthens our communities, and one we’re fortunate to have here in our county.”

During the celebration, Carson Link, representing Limón, presented commendations to Executive Director Dr. Maryam D. Far and several members of the Meals that Connect team in recognition of their service.

“I love this work, and I am honored to serve as executive director of Meals that Connect,” said Dr. Far. “Each time I serve in this capacity, I become more effective, more efficient, and more strategic. The decisions of today impact the decisions of tomorrow.”

Meals that Connect provides meals, wellness programs and support services for older adults and other community members throughout California's Central Coast.
