ATASCADERO — At 3:06 a.m. on Nov. 16, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire at a single-family residence on 4175 San Benito Road. The homeowner reported the incident, and a total of 30 personnel from multiple units were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke emerging from the eaves and gable vents of the single-story home. While conducting an initial assessment, a portion of the roof collapsed due to a working attic fire. Fortunately, all occupants had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.

A complication arose when the homeowner, in an attempt to clear smoke, opened windows and doors during evacuation, inadvertently increasing oxygen supply and accelerating the spread of the attic fire.

Crews successfully controlled the fire within 58 minutes. The living room was identified as the area of origin, but the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported to residents or emergency personnel.
