Joel Douglas Sorrow was born in Norwalk on March 18, 1972. He was the youngest of four children born to Reuben and Thelma (Dunn) Sorrow.

After graduating from Templeton High School in 1990, Joel worked a variety of jobs, including working in the oil fields, installing fiber optic cables and a heavy equipment operator in several states. In September 2019, he relocated to Gun Barrel, Texas, to work with Rail 1.

Joel passed away Oct. 12, 2019, from medical complications after emergency surgery for diverticulitis.

Joel was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father; three siblings: Carolyn Huseby, Atascadero; Sandy Lopez (Michael), Palmyra, Neb.; and David Arana Sorrow (Efran), San Luis Obispo; sons Austin and Aaron Sorrow Huseby, Paso Robles; nieces Sarah Ann Lopez, Danielle Huseby, Kyle Sorrow, and Geremy Lopez (Dana); and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joel will be remembered as a fun-loving guy who loved to joke around with a laugh you could hear a mile away and an unforgettable smile. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who could not cook but was an expert at BBQ. He was always willing to lend a hand to help or just sit and listen without judging. He will be missed by all that knew him.

A Celebration of Joel’s life will be Saturday, Dec. 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of Russ Scamara, 2775 Homestead Rd., Templeton.
