Vernon Lester Stewart 89, of Santa Margarita, passed away peacefully, August 31, 2020, at home with his wife Dorrie by his side. Born in Arlington, South Dakota on December 12, 1930, to Willis A Stewart and Idyle Mae “Nettleton” Stewart. He was raised on the Stewart family farm.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951-1955. He was assigned to the (CBs) Construction Battalion working on the Islands of the South Pacific. 

On May 30, 1953 he married Dorrie Evans of Goshen, Indiana.

He worked in San Luis Obispo for Model linen Supply, West Side Auto Parts, and the Big A Auto Parts store. He retired in 1993.

Vern loved the Community of Santa Margarita. He participated in several community organizations over the years. He was instrumental in the founding of the Santa Margarita Volunteer Fire Department. Vern always took good care of his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and Opa to his great grandchildren.

Vern is survived by his wife of 67 years Dorrie Stewart. Children, Mona and husband Rick Lancaster, Willy and wife Vicki Stewart, Peggy and husband Jeff Lynn. Five grandchildren, Richard and wife Tara Lancaster, Cristin and husband Dustin Knutson, Mackenna and husband Jeremy Waller, Dylan Lynn, and Wesly Stewart. Seven great-grandchildren, Blane, Tyler, Wade Knutson, Sage, Sierra, Brook Lancaster, and Dalton Stewart. Services pending.
