CRESTON — The Shell Fire continues to spread in the vicinity of HWY 58 and Shell Creek Rd., located east of Creston. According to the latest update from Cal Fire SLO, the fire has now consumed 100 acres of land, with firefighting efforts resulting in 60 percent containment.
As a precautionary measure, Highway 58 has been closed at Shell Creek Road due to the fire. Authorities have not provided an estimated time for reopening the road.
While the potential for the fire to reach 300 acres is a concern, at present, there are no immediate threats to structures in the area.
The cause of the Shell Fire remains under investigation, with authorities working to determine the origin and circumstances surrounding the blaze.
