The fire was confined to the rooftop and has been extinguished 

ATASCADERO—Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fire at the Union Bank building on El Camino Real at 1 p.m. this afternoon, Jan. 13.

The fire had been confined to the rooftop, and everyone was evacuated safely. The fire has been knocked down, and crews will be overhauling the affected area.

Please be advised that the North bound lanes of El Camino Real are impacted due to this and should be avoided if possible.

Atascadero Fire Chief Casey Bryson released the following statement Thursday evening:

On January 13, 2022 at 1 pm Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services responded to a reported commercial structure fire at Union Bank, 7199 El Camino Real. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke coming from the roof near the back corner of the building. Crews initiated an Offensive Operation and found the interior of the building all clear of smoke and fire. Three employees were evacuated from the building who were not aware of the emergency. Crews made access to the roof and discovered a portion of the heating and ventilation system was burning.

Fire crews used the Ladder Truck to access the roof and extend a hose line from the ladder to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained within 25 minutes with the use of four (4) Engines, one (1) Ladder Truck, two (2) Chief Officers and one (1) Ambulance. Atascadero Police Department responded and assisted with the evacuation of employees. No other property was damaged and no injuries were reported.

Fire crews remained on scene for 90 minutes to complete extinguishment of the heating and ventilation unit. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
