Paso Robles senior Tatiana Smeltzer is the Atascadero News and Paso Robles Press Girls Water Polo Athlete of the Year. Smeltzer led the Bearcats to a 19-13 record as well as the school’s first-ever CIF Central Section semifinal birth in girls water polo this season. Smeltzer led the way for the Lady Bearcats both offensively and defensively finishing her water polo career as the school’s leading scorer and thief as she added 96 more goals and 109 steals this year (also a school record) while missing six games due to injury.
Smeltzer’s best game of the season came against the San Luis Obispo Tigers on Aug. 22 where she lit up the scoreboard to the tune of eight goals and her favorite memory from this season came in the CIF Central Section first round when her and each of the three other seniors on the team scored three goals to win 12-5.
