SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Annual Early Warning System Siren test took place on Saturday with all 131 sirens operating successfully. The system, which was sounded twice to test both the primary and backup activation points, operated seamlessly. During an emergency, the sounding of the sirens is an indication that the Emergency Alert System has been activated and the public should to tune to a local radio or television station to receive emergency information and instructions.
Although the siren system is tested throughout the year, this annual test is the only time the sirens are simultaneously sounded. The test is a critical aspect to ensuring that the system is operating as designed should it be needed during an emergency.
