A variety of patriotic events scheduled at the Post
ATASCADERO — The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) 2814 of Atascadero is inviting the community to join them at a variety of patriotic events scheduled at the Post in September.
Patriot Day, Sept. 11
Join us for a special candlelight ceremony to remember the many lives lost 20 years ago on Sept. 11, 2001. The Post will be serving complimentary hamburgers and hot dogs and other members and guests are encouraged to contribute side or dessert dishes for a potluck dinner.
POW/MIA Recognition Day, Sept. 17
Join us as we honor the commitments and sacrifices made by our nation’s prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action. The Missing Man Honors Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m., with a community potluck dinner to follow. Members and guests are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
Community Shred Event, Sept. 25
Hosted by the VFW Auxiliary 2814, the community can safely and securely dispose of old paperwork at our first-ever Shred Event from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Professional shredding company, Shred 2 U, will handle the disposing of the paper immediately at the Post through a drive-through service (enter at Santa Rosa Road). A donation of $5 per banker’s box of paperwork is suggested. All proceeds benefit VFW 2814.
Breakfast at the VFW, Sept. 25
Enjoy a hot, homemade breakfast prepared by Post Officers from 9 a.m.to 11 a.m. inside The Canteen for only $8. Drink specials of $5 mimosas and Bloody Marys will be available along with the full bar.
Burgers & Brats Lunch, Every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Enjoy a freshly grilled hamburger or handmade bratwurst lunch starting at only $5. Each meal includes condiments, a bag of chips, and a cup of chili.
Open Pool League, Every Monday at 6 p.m.
Break out that pool stick for a friendly game of pool.
The Canteen at VFW 2814 opens at 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays (Closed Thursdays and Saturdays, with the exception of special events.) Events are open to the public unless otherwise specified—Visit vfwpost2814.org for more details.

The VFW 2814 of Atascadero is a non-profit organization dedicated to the service, care, and support of veterans and their families in San Luis Obispo County and beyond. Comprised of veterans and direct relatives of veterans, VFW 2814 hosts various events and activities throughout the year to bring awareness to veterans’ issues or fundraise to support a variety of programs that benefit veterans and their families.
