Trustee Board congratulates AHS alum and archer Bella Otter on medals won in California and Nova Scotia 

ATASCADERO — Atascadero Unified School District (AUSD) met for their board meeting on Tuesday, June 14, at 4 p.m. The early meeting followed the board’s closed session, which was held at 3 p.m. and was followed by a Facilities Study Session. 

“I’ll just say a big thank you to staff on a very strong finish to this school year. I think it was very beneficial for all of the students. I know we’ve got great parents that are ready to take over for the summer or support them [their children] in camps or our summer school program. We’re looking to see everybody back here in August next year, and have a great summer for everyone,” said Tom Butler during his Superintendent’s Report.

During the Board Member’s Report, Trustee Donn Clickard read a message to the board from compound bow archer and 2021 Atascadero High School graduate Bella Otter on her gold medals at the Pan American Championships in Nova Scotia at the beginning of the month, and her silver medal at the SoCal Showdown in Chula Vista.

The board congratulated Otter on her big wins. 

The minutes from the June 7 Board Meeting passed unanimously along with the Consent Agenda. Trustee Tami Gunther pulled item 11.8 so she could acknowledge a donation to San Gabriel Elementary School for $240 from Don Pomi and PG&E matching funds. 

Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services E.J. Rossi presented the board with the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and Annual Update. 

“We’ve had no addition or changes since our public hearing at our last board meeting [June 7], and so the same plan is before you for approval,” Rossi said when he addressed the board.

The LCAP was approved unanimously.

Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Jackie Martin came to the board with the 2022-2023 Annual Budget, and like the LCAP, no changes had been made since it was discussed at the June 7 meeting. It was approved unanimously by the board.

Martin then presented on the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Atascadero Unified School District and the Atascadero District Teachers Association, a Confidential Supervisory Employees Salary Schedule Increase and Special Services Salary Schedule Increase, a Certified Management Salary Schedule Increase and Classified Management Salary Schedule Increase, an Employment Agreement for the Superintendent, the Superintendent Assistants and the Executive Director of Technology. Said employees will get a pay increase of 7.5 percent.

Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Curt Eichperger started his presentation with the Initial Bargaining Proposal for the California School Employees’ Association (CSEA) and its Atascadero Chapter #124 to AUSD for the 2022-2023 School Year. The board received and acknowledged the receipt of the Initial Bargaining Proposal.

The next item of business was the sister agreement, which is AUSD’s Initial Bargaining Proposal to the CSEA and its Atascadero Chapter #124 for the 2022-2023 School Year. The board received and acknowledged that proposal as well.

Eichperger then addressed the board on Item 15.3, Approval of Declaration for Need for Fully Qualified Educators for the 2022-2023 School Year. 

“This item is a yearly Qualified Educator Request that we make,” said Eichperger. “If we are unable to find a fully credentialed teacher that we would have the ability to work with the County Office of Education to have someone work on a stipulated internship permit or a provisional internship permit that would allow them to teach without a full credential. However, they would have additional supports that would be provided by the district for those hard-to-fill positions that we are currently facing.”

The resolution passed unanimously.

The Atascadero Unified School District’s next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m.
