by Robyn Schmidt, Committee Chair

Atascadero All Comers has been going strong since its start in the summer of 2000. Harry Mara and Dina Coppo created this event where elite athletes, along with beginners and experienced athletes from ages 3 to 103, compete to better themselves, set records, and join others with the same goals. Atascadero All Comers provides a positive environment with lots of fun and camaraderie. Our volunteers are amazing people who love this healthy family activity and come back year after year to be a part of it and encourage all who participate. My husband, Keith/K-Man, and I have had the pleasure of taking over the management of this event about ten years ago. And what a wonderful adventure it has been.

The great thing about these track meets is that there is an event for everyone. You can throw a “shot” (kind of like a heavy baseball), jump into a sand pit or over a bar, or run short or far! The most inspiring and entertaining event is the “kids hurdles.” You just have to come and see it for yourselves. And all the while, there are amazing spectators cheering you on, no matter what place you finish in. Performing in the warm summer evening or into the night under the lights is a good time for everyone. And our snack bar will be open to keep you energized for the next event. We have watched kids who started with our youth division grow into great High School and Collegiate athletes. Participants who no longer compete often become volunteers because of the family-like environment.
