Charles Paddock Zoo announces both baby and mom are healthy and well following birth
Zoo Director, Alan Baker announces the arrival of a new baby! On January 22, a baby Red Flanked Duiker was born at the Charles Paddock Zoo. Both baby and mom are doing well, as mom continues to care for her little girl. Although the baby hasn’t ventured out into the public viewing area yet, zookeepers predict it will happen very soon.
The Duiker is the 7th baby born at the Charles Paddock Zoo from her mother, Ruby. Although the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classifies this species as “Least Concern,” their populations in the wild are quickly declining.
The Charles Paddock Zoo is one of only 233 total institutions that are accredited by the Association of Zoo’s & Aquariums (AZA). The Zoo is dedicated to the conservation of endangered species, educating the public about the natural world, and providing a safe and stimulating recreational resource for residents and visitors of the Central Coast of California. Over 300 animals call the Charles Paddock Zoo home, including red pandas, monkeys, meerkats, parrots, a Malayan Tiger, a variety of reptiles and more.

The Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and is located at Atascadero Lake Park on Highway 41/Morro Road, one mile west of Highway 101.
