The road remains closed through Wednesday and possibly Thursday

ATASCADERO — Some detours are in place after a landslide occurred on Friday, March 10, on Los Alsos Road. The City expects the road to remain closed through possibly Thursday.

Landslide Keeps Los Altos Road Closed; See Detour Information

The landslide is covering the 13800 block of Los Altos Road, which is roughly halfway between Hwy. 41 and San Marcos Road. The road is impassable to through traffic but all residents have access to their properties. This is an active slide and the City will reopen Los Altos Road to through traffic after damage is assessed, debris removed, and any road damage repaired.  

Advance road closure warning signs are in place at Hwy 41 and San Marcos Road intersections, and motorists should use the following for detours:

  • San Gabriel Road — Monita Road — Sierra Vista Road — San Marcos Road 
  • Santa Lucia Road — Laurel Road — Cenegal Road — San Marcos Road 

While there were several reports of localized and seasonal flooding from the March 10, storms, no widespread flooding has been reported, and City storm facilities performed well due to preemptive efforts by City crews. A map of the area is provided on the second page of this release.

  • Miners — Prefilled sandbags available; Home Depot — regular empty sandbags available. 
  • Sand available at the City’s Public Works Yard located at 8005 Gabarda Road; & Fire Station #1, located at 6005 Lewis Ave., corner of Lewis Ave & Traffic Way; Please bring a shovel.
