The Atascadero Greyhound Foundation announced last week that the Wayne Cooper Memorial Lighthouse Atascadero Benefit Golf Tournament has not been canceled in 2020 and will take place on Oct. 10 at Chalk Mountain Golf Course in Atascadero.

The Lighthouse, which has worked in partnership with the Atascadero Unified School District and the Greyhound Foundation since 2012, is dedicated to overcoming addiction through awareness, prevention, intervention, and education and is funded through donations for local community members as a nonprofit organization.

While many fundraising events have been forced into the virtual world or canceled altogether, the golf tournament continues as it will be held outside in a naturally socially distanced setting. Local golf courses have continued to stay open throughout the coronavirus pandemic on the Central Coast by adopting new protocols such as one person to a cart, not in a family group, and no touching of the flagsticks or ball washers.

The Lighthouse provides several programs in the Atascadero community that focus on awareness, prevention, and education for youth surrounding drug and alcohol abuse and addiction.

The tournament will be played as a 4-man scramble and is limited to only 30 teams. The cost to play in the competition is $40, which includes the green fee, cart and lunch. Those interested in making a reservation can call Chalk Mountain Golf Course and speak with Jeremy Clay at 805-423-3524 or email him at jeremy@chalkmountaingolf.com.

Even those not playing in the tournament can still support the causes and are encouraged to become a hole sponsor for $100 or a cart sponsor for $200. Raffles and prizes such as closest to the pin will also be up for grabs, and anyone wishing to donate an item or sponsor can contact Donn Clickard at 805-712-6356.
