Atascadero Mayor Charles Bourbeau announces bid for reelection

ATASCADERO — Mayor Charles Bourbeau has announced he will seek a second two-year term in the November 2026 Atascadero City election.

“I am very pleased with what the city has accomplished since I joined the City Council in 2016 and am proud to have been a part of that journey,” Bourbeau said. “I believe that our residents see the progress in Atascadero; Roads being fixed, new bridges, a revitalized downtown that is thriving more than ever, improved park facilities, great family-oriented events and more."

Bourbeau highlighted the council’s use of funds from voter-approved sales tax Measure D20 to enhance public safety staffing, reconstruct Fire Station 1, remodel Fire Station 2 and the Police Department, and promote economic development, attracting private investment and new housing.

“I want to continue on the path of progress we have been on for two more years,” he said.

Bourbeau moved to Atascadero in 1985 and retired as a Colonel in the California National Guard, overseeing federal financial management, logistics, and contracting. He served on the City Council beginning in 2016, was reelected in 2020, and ran unopposed for Mayor in 2024.

“At the end of a second term as Mayor in 2028, I will have been on the City Council for 12 years and I think that is long enough. If reelected, I expect this will be my last term.” Bourbeau said.

The filing period for the November 2026 election opens in July.
